Design

Engine gasket material confirmation & gasket design appraisal

Aim: To confirm the rubber type & carry out an appraisal of the engine gasket design.

Chemical Analysis

Identify the polymer type by using infrared spectroscopy. Confirm the bulk composition; plasticizer, polymer, carbon black filler & inorganic filler levels by thermo gravimetric analysis.

Design Appraisal

Review the engine gasket & mating hardware materials, form, dimensions, tolerances & surface finishes. Assess the gasket in its assembled condition using finite element analysis & make recommendations accordingly.
