PROTEC

Supercritical Fluid Carbon Dioxide Processing Technology for biodegradable polymers targeting medical applications

This project will develop a highly innovative supercritical fluid processing technology that will enable European industries to develop & manufacture, in a highly controlled manner, advanced multifunctional biodegradable materials possessing consistent & well-defined physical & mechanical properties, chemical composition, porosity, & degradation profile.

This technological advance will be realised through addressing the scientific & technological gap between fundamental academic research & industry & through further developing advanced process control methodologies. The innovative processing technology developed within the project will also be designed to enable efficient integration with existing extrusion & injection moulding machines found throughout European industry.

Alongside Smithers Rapra, participants in the project include Trexel GmbH, the University of Birmingham, the University of Twente, the Technical University of Lódz & S.E. de Carburos Metalicos, S.A.
