Current Projects

Smithers Rapra is currently involved with an extensive portfolio of projects.

Pegasus

PEGASUS forms part of a long line of development within the automotive industry aimed at decreasing lead times, reducing costs & improving flexibility of manufacturing.

Emold

Emold intends completely to redefine the plastic injection process, by proposing a new concept of plastic injection processes in which moulds will pass from being passive elements to becoming networked active elements with embedded knowledge.

PEPT-Flow

Using an innovative flow visualisation technique the PEPT-Flow project will address a known industrial barrier: the fundamental lack of quantitative & qualitative knowledge with regard to the relationships between machine design, total process operation, polymer flow & mixing behaviour in twin-screw extruders. This knowledge gap has been identified as a major barrier to the advancement of twin-screw extrusion for knowledge-based processes.

Custom-IMD

The 2010 industry paradigm will be that the 'Implantable Medical Device' surgeon will plan & execute surgical operations based solely on the clinical needs of the patient. Custom-IMD will realise this vision through the development of new biomaterials for the manufacture of innovative fully-customised medical implants using enhanced rapid manufacturing technologies to enable delivery of a customised IMD within forty-eight hours.

ENER-Plast

From design to manufacturing: Instruments for reducing the energy consumption & carbon emissions of the polymer industry & its supply chain.

Badana

Development of an automated process to extract fibres from the waste of banana food production for exploitation as a sustainable reinforcement in injection- & rotomoulded products.

Rotoflex

Innovative rotomoulding development to improve cycle times & process efficiency whilst facilitating greater flexibility in product design & integrity for the SME-rotomoulding sector.
