Case Study - Thermoplastic flooring system
Hawklok approached Smithers Rapra as a leading independent test house to validate their new range of flooring prior to sale through leading DIY stores.
Hawklok had created an innovative new flooring product, initially designed as a quick lay, high strength shed & outbuilding base. The panels are made from 100% recycled polypropylene.
Hawklok grids were put through a comprehensive testing program by Smithers Rapra to validate the strength & durability of the product. There were no standard test requirements, so a bespoke testing programme was developed.
The test program involved measuring the crush resistance of Hawklok grids using various sizes of wooden joists. The results demonstrated a minimum crush resistance of 3.6 tonnes was required using 44mm joists.
A Hawklok grid resisted an even pressure over one whole grid totalling 22.3 tonnes - the maximum pressure the Jig was capable of applying.
